Arab Philanthropy Commitment
on Climate Change

The MENA region is warming nearly twice as fast as the global average and we are already seeing the disastrous effects of climate change, from scorched crops to deadly flooding to a rise in heat-related illnesses and deaths. Studies predict the region could become 4°C warmer by 2050 if it continues on the same trajectory, potentially affecting 575 million people, including putting 70% of people in low-income countries at risk.

The time to act is now.

At the COP28 climate summit in December 2023, the Arab Foundations Forum proudly announced our commitment to developing an Arab Regional Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change as part of the global #PhilanthropyForClimate movement led by WINGS. The commitment will consider the impacts of and solutions to climate change from the Arab perspective and adapt the framework of the International Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change, along with its implementation guidelines, into a regional framework that can be adopted by AFF’s members and wider network, allowing the establishment of a #PhilanthropyForClimate movement across the Arab region. The Arab #PhilanthropyForClimate Working Group will develop the regional commitment with the objective of launching it during COP29.

AFF is thrilled to be championing this important movement in our region and to join a growing cohort of philanthropic networks who host national #PhilanthropyForClimate commitments, including Canada, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

We believe in the movement’s great potential to catalyze philanthropic action on climate change across the globe. Through collaborative action and regional cooperation, the Arab #PhilanthropyForClimate Working Group aims to develop a comprehensive commitment that will pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for the Arab region.
