Founded in 2001 by Al-Dabbagh Group and based in London, Stars is an independent charity committed to supporting 20 million people by 2020.
By combining our Founding Donor's entrepreneurial heritage with our longstanding dedication to locally-led solutions, Stars harnesses the insight, assets and ambition of local civil society organisations and private sector companies, enabling them to achieve social change.
In all our work, we seek to champion and amplify the efforts of those working on the front line in the fight against poverty and child mortality.
Stars Foundation invests in organisations and ideas that transform the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities globally.
We believe in the power of local organisations. For us, this means finding and investing in outstanding locally-led organisations that deliver impact on the front line in the fight against poverty and child mortality. We achieve this through our Impact Awards, Girls Awards, and Rising Star Awards.
We believe in the power of innovative ideas and cross-sector engagement in order to accelerate change. We work collaboratively with stakeholders to leverage expertise, resource, insight and reach to do more, and to do better.
We work as a broker to build partnerships, networks and coalitions that will allow us to make a more meaningful contribution to the global development project, and to the lives of millions of children around the world.
We believe that every child deserves to grow up safe, healthy and with opportunities to learn and develop.
- Stars Impact Awards: The Stars Impact Awards, our flagship programme, identifies and rewards effective, well-managed locally-led organisations, shining a deserving spotlight on their success and providing support that lets them steer, sustain or scale their work on their own terms. We do this by providing flexible funding and capacity building support. Since 2007, the Impact Awards have recognised local civil society organisations in 30 countries, supporting more than four million people. In 2015 we will be awarding 24 organisations across three regions with up to US $50,000 of flexible funding and capacity building support.
- Global Rising Stars: The Global Rising Star award, in partnership with The Global Fund for Children, awards smaller grassroots organisations that show real potential in their work to improve the lives of vulnerable children. Winners receive $20,000 in flexible funding and an additional US$10,000 in tailored consultancy and capacity building support.
- The With and For Girls Collective Award: Established in 2014, The With and For Girls Collective, made up of eight partners , is developing a global awards process that is committing a total of $1m to strong local girl-led and girl-focused organisations. The Collective will award 20 organisations in 2015 with up to US $50,000 in funding and capacity building support. Central to the awards programme is the participation of girls, who will form part of the independent panel that will decide on the final 20 winners.
